Lovely bit on payet, the club and the Boleyn on goals in Sunday. Peter reid was so complimentary about us I almost thought he was a fan

I don't think the sun reporter ever goes to games. Their player ratings are fucking gibberish every week.

The other week banging on about how much better Carroll (i think it was) was than benteke, who they said was shocking. Then giving both players a 7.

Grumps.... in the sun today... Payet 7/10 Aguero 9/10.... and then the write up is all about how fucking good Dimi was ... I gather the person that does the ratings and the write up are not the same person?? Mail ratings far nearer the mark for me

It is true that we seem to put our best performances in against the best teams but I think there is a reason for that or at least its part of the problem against the lower ranked teams. City like most of the teams at the top, come out and play against us and that suits our game nowadays. Against the teams fighting to get stay in the league, their aim is to deny us space, sit deep and hit us on the counter. The likes of Kouyate, Valencia and others struggle with that type of attention. Yesterday City gave us so much time and room because they believe they can always outscore teams as their attack and forwards are so good. It makes for a great game to watch.

What Slav and team need to work out is how best to take on teams that the likes of Pulis and you know who put together. The ones that play attrition football. We shall soon have an example as Sunderland are at UP in a few weeks :-)

Sir Alf - the mere mention of kovac made me shudder
Mate of mine was at the hand and flowers restaurant last night and Andy Carroll and his wife were in there. Always seems weird to me that injured players don't bother to go and support their team....

I like that the papers are still also dinosaurs with reporters who know nothing about football.

Quite a few have Sergio as mom yesterday. Shouldn't get annoyed, but the cunt only scored a penalty and a tap in from a mistake.

Another thing, it would make a hell of a difference if Kayoute decided to turn up against the lesser teams. Seems to save himself for the big games on TV, which is a shame.

Yep, some couldn't believe that sane people would rather Bilic then Benitez. The fact that I hate that cunt aside, he was a terrible fit for the club.

Re: West Ham v Man City - Official Match Thread FT 2-2
There were so man good performances yesterday including of course Payet and Noble, Valencia, Antonio, Reid, Collins but for me the one that made the biggest difference or allowed us not to be bossed in midfield was Song. I thought alongside Noble that the 2 of them would be too slow as a pair but Song's strength on the ball and the fact that he rarely if ever wasted it, made us look so much more solid in midfield. The possession stats showed that to some extent too. Against City I was thinking 30% if we were lucky but I think we were around 45%. Just stats I know but important.

Song now needs to show he can do that every week. We also have the younger but promising Obiang to come in and Ogbonna and Tomkins as back up too. Oh such a change to the days of old when we had the likes of Kovac and Quashie :-)

Sums it up for me.

I remember we were both arguing the case for Bilic in the summer while many were dismissing him as a failure. We could easily have gone for the safe, boring option and got a yesterday's man. I hope we continue to recruit our players in the same way.

Re: West Ham v Man City - Official Match Thread FT 2-2
I think the key yesterday was the right balance in the team - not too many flair players, no static target man, a hardworking side who had the skill and intelligence to score and cause problems.

Delighted for Valencia as he's taken some stick on here and I think he is a much better player when his job is up front and not concerned with tracking full backs or running in corners of the pitch. His movement created much more space for the midfield.

Antonio has also really taken his chance when Moses was injured. Great attitude and work ethic and what I like is he makes an extra man in the box. Great throw to spot Valencias movement for the second goal. Even if they have worked on it in training, it was perfect weight to stop Hart gathering and give Valencia a chance.

Kouyate has had some off games recently but how he hasn't added to his goal tally in the last two matches is incredible. A good 1st time shot saved and header off the line last week and the crossbar saving Man City yesterday.

With others to come back and options on the bench, we do have the ability to change systems and try and keep players fresh.

If Song is coming back to his best now then that is a huge bonus and takes so much pressure off the players around him. He would definitely be someone I would look to sign as there is a calmness and quality in his game when he is on it that is hard to find.

Love to see us batter a few of the teams lower down the league to really build up a head of steam. Our best performance seem to be against the big clubs. If we can do that then this could be the best season for 30 odd years.

I have loved this season. Absolutely loved it, and just had a feeling this is what it would be like under Bilic.

There's just one slight thing that we need to be better at, and that's to come out the blocks like we did yesterday against EVERYONE that we play. We can tend to come out a bit slow against teams that don't start on the front, but if we come out with the intention we did yesterday, we could really wallop a few teams.

Still, what a turnaround in half a season. West Ham & Bilic are perfect for each other, and the future feels very exciting.

I'd like to think so, PD. Maybe I'm just a cynical bugger.

Also, how does a club with that much money and such good attacking players end up with Demichelis and Otamendi at the back? I know Kompany is injured, but even so - it's not like they haven't spent any money on the defence. How much did they pay for Otamendi again? Woeful. We've got 3 better centre halves than that pair, and our defence is 'average' according to Liverpool.

Antonio's throw in - I am getting a little miffed with all the reference to their defence falling asleep and without mention to Antonio's vision and delivery

Had a throw in been dropped on Rooney's foot for him to pass that ball there would have been a wank fest of appreciation

That throw was precision perfect from the lad and had to be, it was not a regulation chuck

Re: West Ham v Man City - Official Match Thread FT 2-2
I've just seen back the foul on Antonio. It occurs to me that had it been Reid on Aguerro the ref would have been inclined to red card him as last man in defence.
